The most complete semester GPA calculator for 2026 — covering US college GPA, Indian SGPA, weighted high school GPA, cumulative multi-semester GPA, and a grade planning tool, all in one free tool.
Supports A+/A/A−/B+/B/B−/C+/C/C−/D+/D/F letter grades with credit hours. Choose between standard 4.0, 4.3 plus/minus, or simplified no-plus-minus scale. Widely used for US college GPA calculation.
Built for CBCS 10-point system (O/A+/A/B+/B/C/P/F), VIT FFCS (S/A/B/C/D/E/F), SRM, RTU, and custom grade point mappings. Works for all NIT, VIT, SRM, and university SGPA calculations.
Calculates weighted GPA for high school students with Honors (+0.5 to max 4.5) and AP/IB (+1.0 to max 5.0) courses. Essential for US college application profiles and scholarship comparisons.
Enter multiple semesters with their GPA and credit hours to calculate your running cumulative GPA. See the exact credit-weighted average across your entire college career in seconds.
Enter your current GPA, credits completed, and target GPA — the planner tells you exactly what GPA you need to earn this semester to reach your goal. Essential for students recovering from a bad semester.
Fully responsive on all devices. Add and remove courses dynamically, get instant animated results, and share your GPA calculation. No login, no data stored, always free.
Select the correct calculator tab for your school system: US 4.0 GPA for American high schools and colleges; India SGPA for Indian universities using 10-point CBCS, VIT FFCS, SRM, or RTU systems; Weighted GPA for US high school students with AP/Honors/IB courses; Cumulative for tracking your GPA across multiple semesters; Planner for working out what GPA you need to hit a target. Most US universities use the 4.0 scale; most Indian engineering colleges use the 10-point CBCS scale.
For each course in your semester, enter: (1) the course name (optional, for your reference); (2) the letter grade you received (A, B+, C−, etc. for US; O/A+/A/B+ etc. for Indian); (3) the number of credit hours (or credits) the course carries. Most US college courses are 3 credit hours; lab courses are often 1. Most Indian university theory subjects are 3–4 credits; labs are 1–2. Add as many courses as your semester has — the calculator handles any number dynamically.
The semester GPA formula is a credit-weighted average: Semester GPA = Σ(Grade Points × Credit Hours) ÷ Σ(Total Credit Hours). Example: English (A = 4.0, 3 credits), Math (B+ = 3.3, 4 credits), Physics (B = 3.0, 3 credits), Lab (A− = 3.7, 1 credit): GPA = (4.0×3 + 3.3×4 + 3.0×3 + 3.7×1) ÷ (3+4+3+1) = (12+13.2+9+3.7) ÷ 11 = 37.9 ÷ 11 = 3.45. Click Calculate to get this result instantly with full breakdown.
The Planner tab helps you answer: "What GPA do I need this semester to reach my target GPA?" Enter your current cumulative GPA, total credits completed, target GPA, and credits in the upcoming semester. The formula: Required Semester GPA = (Target GPA × (Current Credits + New Credits) − Current GPA × Current Credits) ÷ New Credits. If the required GPA exceeds 4.0, your target may not be achievable in one semester — the planner tells you this directly and suggests a realistic multi-semester path.
The Cumulative tab lets you enter GPA and total credit hours for each completed semester to see your running cumulative GPA. This is what appears on your official transcript. For example: Sem 1 (GPA 3.2, 15 credits) + Sem 2 (GPA 3.6, 16 credits) + Sem 3 (GPA 3.4, 15 credits): Cumulative GPA = (3.2×15 + 3.6×16 + 3.4×15) ÷ (15+16+15) = (48+57.6+51) ÷ 46 = 156.6 ÷ 46 = 3.40. Adding more semesters gives the exact cumulative GPA on your transcript.
A 4-credit course impacts your GPA 4× more than a 1-credit course. Getting an A in a 1-credit lab is great, but a B− in your 4-credit Engineering Math pulls your semester GPA down much more. Strategy: prioritize grade improvement in high-credit courses first. A grade improvement from B to A in a 4-credit course raises a 15-credit semester GPA by 0.27 points — versus only 0.07 for a 1-credit course. Use our calculator to run "what-if" scenarios before finals.
