Different universities and applications require different GPA scales: US universities (CommonApp, GRE applications, US job applications): US 4.0 GPA scale. Indian university applications, DASA, scholarship forms: Indian 10-point CGPA. UK MSc applications, UCAS: UK degree classification (First / 2:1 / 2:2). German university applications: German 1.0–5.0 scale (lower is better). European Erasmus+ applications: ECTS A–F relative grade. Always check what scale the application form specifically asks for before converting.
The conversion formula depends on your percentage system and target GPA scale: Indian % → US 4.0 GPA: GPA = (Percentage / 100) × 4.0. Example: 82.5% → (82.5/100) × 4.0 = 3.30 GPA. Indian % → 10-pt CGPA (most universities): CGPA = Percentage ÷ 10. Example: 82.5% → 82.5 ÷ 10 = 8.25 CGPA. Indian % → German grade: German Grade = 1 + 3 × (100 – %) / (100 – Min%). Indian % → UK class: 70%+ = First Class; 60–69% = 2:1; 50–59% = 2:2; 40–49% = Third. Use the tabs above to calculate these instantly.
Indian students converting percentage to CGPA must use their specific university's formula: VTU, Anna University, JNTU, most NITs: CGPA = % ÷ 10. CBSE, Delhi University, MDU: CGPA = % ÷ 9.5. AKTU (Rajasthan Tech, UP Tech): CGPA = (% ÷ 10) + 0.5. Mumbai University: CGPA = (% – 11) ÷ 7.1. Using the wrong formula can under- or over-state your CGPA by 0.5–1.0 points on job and scholarship forms. Use the "India Univ." tab above for instant calculation with the correct formula.
The "All Scales" tab converts your single percentage to every major GPA scale simultaneously. This is useful when applying to multiple countries — you can see at a glance your equivalent on US 4.0, Indian CGPA, UK class, German grade, and ECTS, without doing multiple calculations. Use the result to fill in GPA fields on US Common Application, UK UCAS, German uni-assist, and Canadian OUAC applications without confusion about which number to enter.
The result shows your GPA, the equivalent letter grade (A, B+, etc.), your admission competitiveness tier (Ivy League / Top-50 / Good universities / Most programmes), and the benchmark for scholarships at that GPA level. Compare your converted GPA to the university's published minimum and competitive GPA range — not just the minimum. If your converted GPA is below the competitive range, consider strengthening other parts of your application (GRE, work experience, publications, SOP) before applying to reach programs.
